英语寓言故事小短文
The Lion and the Mouse
Once upon a time, in the heart of a dense jungle, there lived a mighty lion who was feared by all the animals. The lion ruled the forest with strength and pride, and his roar could be heard echoing through the trees. One day, while the lion was taking a leisurely stroll, he stumbled upon a tiny mouse scurrying across his path. Startled, the lion pounced on the little creature, catching it between his massive paws.
“Why do you disturb me?” growled the lion, his voice rumbling like thunder. “I could crush you with a single paw!”
The frightened mouse trembled but managed to squeak out its plea. “Please, great king, spare my life! I may be small, but one day I might be able to help you.”
The lion let out a loud laugh. “How can such a tiny creature ever help someone as powerful as me? Very well,” he said, deciding to release the mouse, “but don’t expect any favors from me in the future.”
The mouse scampered away, grateful for its narrow escape. Days passed, and the lion went about his daily routines. One fateful morning, however, the tables turned. As the lion wandered deep into the jungle, he found himself caught in a hunter’s trap—a strong net that ensnared him completely. Roaring and thrashing, the lion tried to free himself, but the more he struggled, the tighter the net became.
Just then, the little mouse appeared. Hearing the lion’s cries, it rushed over to investigate. Spotting the trapped lion, the mouse wasted no time. It began gnawing at the ropes of the net with its sharp teeth. Despite the lion’s initial skepticism, the mouse worked tirelessly, biting and chewing until a gap large enough for the lion to escape was created.
Finally, the lion broke free. Dusting himself off, he looked down at the mouse and said, “Thank you, little friend. I see now that even the smallest creatures have their own strengths. From this day forward, I will respect everyone, no matter how big or small.”
And so, the lion learned an important lesson: that even the weakest among us can prove invaluable when the time comes. The moral of the story is simple yet profound—kindness and respect should never be underestimated, for even the smallest actions can make a difference.
From that day on, the lion and the mouse became unlikely friends, sharing stories and laughter under the shade of the ancient trees. And the jungle grew quieter, knowing that its ruler had grown wiser and kinder.
